Shiprock from the East, Navajo Nation

Pine and Poconip, Eastern Sierra

I rediscovered this 2006 image recently while tidying up the darkroom. Made on a scouting trip for the Dinetah (Navajo country) seminar, it is one of a series made as a storm system was moving over this most sacred Navajo landmark. Rock-with-Wings- as the Navajo name translates - plays a primary role in the Dine's creation story. The negative is seriously overexposed. and thus had never been printed, not even as a contact print. A couple of new techniques recently added to the "darkroom tool kit" make it a manageable image, but not without conjsiderable effort.

Purchase an 11x14 print for a limited time for only $125! This is a discount of more than 50%. It's prepared by Rick in the same edition size, to the same exacting standards, and presented in the same 16x20 museum board window mat, as those at regular prices - and is available only to web site visitors. When ordering, enter "Featured Print" under the promotional code on the order form or contact Rick. Standard shipping charges and taxes apply.
